Foster carers, and those considering fostering, are being asked for their thoughts on how the council can better support them.
Foster carers play an extraordinary role in the lives of children and young people, offering safety, care, and the chance to grow in a stable and loving environment.
Our fostering families are offered a wide range of support and training, alongside supervision from a dedicated social worker. There’s also access to therapeutic support staff, a local support network and 24-hour local duty team.
In addition to a competitive weekly allowance, additional payments are made at certain times, such as Christmas and birthdays. The council also provides an annual retention payment, plus a number of celebratory events each year.
The council is now asking for feedback to help shape the fostering service for the upcoming year. You can have your say using the Lincolnshire Fostering Service: Fostering survey until 12 April.
Cllr Natalie Oliver, Executive Member for Children’s Services, said: “Foster carers make a life-changing difference to the some of the most vulnerable children in our communities, and we want to make sure they get the support they need to do their vital role. We want to hear from foster carers – and those considering fostering – to know what more we can do to support our extraordinary fostering community, which will help us plan any necessary improvements for the coming year.”
In Lincolnshire, there is a need for more foster carers to come forward. Each application is considered on an individual basis, and you can be a foster carer regardless of your marital status, sexuality, employment status, ethnicity, or religion. However, you do need to have a spare bedroom for a child or young person to use.
