Switching fostering agencies can be a turning point, helping you feel truly valued, well-supported, and able to make an even greater difference in the lives of local children.

If you're unsure about the process or whether it’s the right move, this guide is here to help. We'll show you the signs that it might be time to consider a change, and how transferring can be straightforward and rewarding.

Signs it might be time to switch

You don’t feel valued

Fostering is a partnership. If you feel isolated, overlooked, or excluded from decisions, it may be time to consider an agency that truly values your role.

At Lincolnshire Fostering Service, our Young Voices and Foster Carer Champions programmes ensure that everyone involved in fostering, adults and children, is listened to, respected, and included.

You’re not getting the support you need

Support is vital. If you’re left to cope alone or find it hard to access advice, this can be stressful and disheartening.

With Lincolnshire Fostering Service, you're never on your own. Our team provides 24/7 support with regular home visits, phone calls, and guidance that’s responsive to your needs.

Placements are few and far between

It’s frustrating to want to foster but not be matched with suitable children. As the local authority, we’re always the first point of call when a child needs a foster home. That means we prioritise matching children with our in-house carers before approaching fostering agencies. We work hard to make sure each match is well considered, giving every placement the best chance of success.

There’s no break

We know that caring can be challenging, and everyone needs time to rest and recharge. That’s why we offer at least 14 paid nights off per year, helping you stay refreshed and ready to offer your best.

Training isn’t meeting your needs

We believe confident carers make the biggest difference. That’s why our training is varied, in-depth and flexible, covering everything from sleep, trauma and therapeutic parenting to ADHD, safeguarding and emotional regulation.

Transferring should feel empowering, not overwhelming

We’ll make sure the process is smooth and supportive, so you feel respected, valued and fully prepared from day one.

"Transferring to Lincolnshire Fostering was the best decision I’ve made. I felt my previous agency wasn’t meeting my needs—especially around the types of placements I was being offered. Now, I feel heard, supported, and part of a team that truly values what I do."
